At Glemham our aim is simple – to provide sound, relevant and cost-effective underwriting solutions for the brokers we work with and their clients.
As far as we’re concerned, the very best way to do this is in a three-way partnership – you, the broker; your client; and ourselves. Working together in this way means that by sharing knowledge and understanding we can arrive at insurance solutions that meet real needs, solutions that work for everybody.
Distinctive underwriting philosophy
Our approach wherever possible is to ‘underwrite the business’. That is, to look at each risk in terms of the management, expertise and claims history of the client, rather than just focusing on their profession or trade. All too often the true quality of a risk is overlooked if underwriting is done ‘by the book’, with the conventional wisdom about a market sector outweighing a real assessment of an individual business. Sure, some risks can be a challenge – but ‘high risk’ is by no means the same as a bad risk.
We call this underwriting with intelligence, rather than with the rule-book. It’s underpinned by the skills and exceptional knowledge of our underwriters, combined with the in-depth understanding of your clients and their needs that we can arrive at by working together in partnership.

Call us old-fashioned, but we believe in working to the founding principles of the insurance industry – ‘utmost good faith’; honesty; integrity; professionalism; and, crucially, service. Prompt turnaround of quotations is of course a given, as is a rapid and accurate response to questions and queries. Most importantly of all, you’ll find that at Glemham you have direct access to decision-makers – you can talk directly to our underwriters. For us, delivering the level of service you expect and need is an important part of earning the trust that underpins our working relationship.
Our back story
We set up Glemham early in 2006 to underwrite wholesale Professional Indemnity and Commercial classes of insurance for UK-domiciled businesses, through a panel of national supporting brokers.
Our aim was – and is – to combine the service-driven ethos of UK composite insurers with strong technical ability and a very positive approach to doing business. We’ve put together the management and underwriting team to deliver this, combining top talent from Lloyd’s syndicates, UK composites and Lloyd’s wholesale brokers. Our senior people are all highly experienced, seasoned professionals. and we draw on this deep pool of experience and knowledge to underwrite flexible, relevant, reliable policies backed by A+ rated insurers.
